Loch a Mhuilidh
Loch a Mhuilidh
As Michael Caine would say, not a lot of people know this, but I was told while I was living in the glen, that this island was used as a hiding place by Simon The Fox, who was the 11th Lord Lovat and was the Jacobite chief of the Clan Fraser, he was renowned for his violent feuding and his changes of allegiance from the House of Hanover to the Stuarts claim for the crown of Scotland.he was amongst the Highlanders at the battle of Culloden, he was convicted for treason after the defeat, and this was one of his many hiding places, because at that point they owned unbroken land from Strathpeffer to the river Morar on the West Coast where he was later captured on an Island on Loch Morar, and taken to London to be beheaded, he was the last man in Britain to be beheaded at Tower Hill.
