Elvaston Castle is Gothic style mansion dating mainly from the early nineteenth century although part of the eastern wing (not shown here) bears the date 1633 being the remains of an earlier building. It was formerly the home of the Earls of Harrington. Passing through the archway in this picture leads to the courtyard behind the house.
