Newt Catcher, near Bilton
This two foot high plastic fence stretches over fields marking the route of Rugby's Western Relief Road across green belt land. The purpose is to try to collect and relocate great crested newts which live in ponds along the planned route. The idea is that as the newts are migrating at this time of year, when they reach the fence they are unable to climb over and then run along and drop into buckets. The fences will remain in place for about 30 days; the scheme is costing £50,000.
