The River Leam is at a moderately high level after a period of rain. The weir was built around 1860 to maintain a level sheet of water through the town. Across the river is Severn Trent's sewage pumping station: all Leamington's sewage is pumped through sewers in the floodplain to Longbridge, southwest of neighbouring Warwick, for treatment. Following replacement of sewers and other works in the town, surface water is kept separate from foul sewage and is released to the river. One of the new outfalls can be seen in the centre of the photo.
