Waterpowered Railway between Lynton and Lynmouth, North Devon
The Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway is water-powered and gravity fed from the West Lyn River to a tank at the top which holds 750 gallons. It is then used to fill the upper car tank. The bottom car releases sufficient water to make it lighter than the top car and passengers. The top car pulls the bottom one up as it descends from Lynton to Lynmouth.
