The ancient stone at Llanychaer Church was once the lintel stone over the fireplace at Hen Cilrhedin. ('Hen' being Welsh for 'old'). It should not be confused with Cilrhedin Uchaf (higher) which is a newer building some distance away. It is now a ruin but was the family home for many generations of the William family who were tenant farmers and my ancestors. This information was recently relayed to me by Roy Lewis, a treasure trove of local knowledge and the finder of actual treasure trove - the gold and silver coins found at Tregwynt and now in a museum found with his metal detector.
