Apparently the actual company name is Caley Oils Ltd. It looks as though someone didn't get the spacing right to fit in the 'S', or perhaps the building wasn't large enough. Don't you just hate it when that happens!
Ullapool was chosen by the British Fisheries Society as one of three planned fishing villages in 1788. The others were Tobermory (Mull) and Lochbay (Skye). Herring fishing was to be the main activity. Thomas Telford was involved with the early engineering of the Society's port facilities.
