Try to imagine this short, after lunch walk as being in the shape of a tadpole. The walk starts at the bottom of the tail, goes clockwise around the body and then, back down the tail.
At the end of the tail is the Hardwick Inn and car park, whilst the body comprises Hardwick Great Pond and a small area of wetland to the south.

This photograph is looking across Hardwick Great Pond to the park beyond and Hardwick ‘New’ (left) and Old (right) Halls and was taken from a footpath that is about a half of the way round the ‘body of the tadpole.’
The stone structure on the near left is a sluice. The walk continues passed the sluice and across the dam wall.

The route of the return footpath to the Hardwick Inn follows the opposite bank until it reaches the trees opposite where it moves away from the pond's edge.
