Chedgrave Gate
Langley Hall >
Link was built in 1737 incorporating an earlier house. The main entrance into the park was Chedgrave Gate. It comprises two brick lodges, built by Sir John Soane in 1784 and is decorated with engraved heraldic shields bearing the motto TOUJOURS FIDELE (always faithful), and linked by a gault brick arch and a pair of curved iron gates (curved to mirror the curve of the arch). Each of the tiny lodges is equipped with a fair-sized fireplace, with the chimney being incorporated into the gateway and the chimney pots emerging on top of the gate. The windows in the south face have a balustrade below and are set into a round-headed niche.
