Cold War defence boom, Pig's Bay, Shoeburyness
Cold War defence boom, Pig's Bay, Shoeburyness
This boom was built in the early 1950's as part of a defensive system for the Thames estuary and London beyond. It replaced an earlier (and more relevant!) wooden boom built in World War II against submarines and amphibious attack. Details of the boom and its history can be found on the Historic England website.
