SJ3289 : The old Wallasey Dock Impounding Station

taken 42 years ago, near to Seacombe, Wirral, England

The old Wallasey Dock Impounding Station
The old Wallasey Dock Impounding Station
The steam pumps in here had been scrapped but the beds and bottom half of the pump casings were visible. The adjoining modern station of c1938 contained steam turbines driving centrifugal pumps. We missed these running by minutes as the chimney had clearly been smoking while we were at the Mersey Tunnel pumping station at Shore Road. The turbines were replaced the same year.
