Pond near Finemerehill House, Greatmoor
Pond near Finemerehill House, Greatmoor
This hillside pond, which lies just south of the isolated Finemerehill House behind the camera, is at a height of 115m. On the left hidden in the edge of Finemere Wood, is a bridleway that runs south-west down the hill to meet the C road between Shipton Lee and Edgcott. This bridleway was part of the ancient Oxford Way, a drove road for sheep and cattle serving the Oxford colleges, and the pond was a water-hole for sheep and cattle. In the far distance is Muswell Hill, north-west of the village of Brill.
