Railway line near Steeple Claydon
This is the end of the railway line from Bicester and Oxford. It is only used by freight trains, currently one a day, carrying containerised household waste from Bath and Bristol to the landfill site at Calvert to the south-west. The landfill site is served by another railway line from London, but which ends at its junction with this railway about 1km behind the camera. The double track here, which is known as the Claydon loop, allows trains to be moved between the two lines. Beyond the double track, the line is out of use and officially listed as 'mothballed'. For some of the history of the railway, see SP6925 : Road bridge over railway near Steeple Claydon .
