Brown Ale Bay is on the north shoreline of the reservoir.
Carsington Water is a reservoir operated by Severn Trent Water, the finished reservoir was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1992. It has a capacity of 36 million cubic metres, and a surface area of 296 hectares, it has a maximum depth of 31 metres. It is the ninth largest reservoir in England.
