SS5609 : Mons Hall

taken 11 years ago, near to Iddesleigh, Devon, Great Britain

Mons Hall
Mons Hall
This attractive farm is called "Mousehole" on the 1:25000 map, but Mons Hall or Monshall on more detailed maps. A correspondent tells me that her great-grandfather's baptism certificate from 1861 gives "Mousehole" as the name. The caption for the 1981 photo shown at LinkExternal link hedges its bets. I can see that the names could be pronounced similarly.

The nearer, slated, barn is described at LinkExternal link while the thatched farmhouse is described at LinkExternal link , which adds an apostrophe: "Mon's Hall".

The lane leads from Upcott towards Iddesleigh.
