Situated near the church, the plaque reads "Stow whipping irons, the left hand irons are dated 1789 and have a makers stamp mark showing the letters W.H. possibly the initials of the maker of the irons. Records show that about 1600 a William Hill carried on the business of Stow village blacksmith."
