Low tide at Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes
Low tide at Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes
Between mean high water and mean low water. The dunes of the nature reserve are to the left. When the tide is in this area is very shallow. You can see an area of sand starting to be colonsised by Marram Grass just beyond the water. Marram Grass or Beach Grass grows almost exclusively on coastal sand dunes, where rhizomes on its extensive root system allow it to survive in very harsh and windswept conditions. It consolodates sand dunes allowing other species to grow in the area.
