SK7985 : West Burton deserted village

taken 11 years ago, near to Bole, Nottinghamshire, Great Britain

West Burton deserted village
West Burton deserted village
The hummocky nature of the field is the result of the underlying remains of this village. The population started dwindling from the 16th Century, but it seems that the final straw was when the Trent changed its course by cutting through the neck of the loop which passed directly by the village. The fence marks the boundary of the churchyard.
