Calke Abbey: The Stables
Calke Abbey: The Stables
Some idea of the importance of horses to the eighteenth century Harpur family, the builders and owners of Calke Abbey, can be gleaned from the size and magnificence of this south-east fašade of one of the stable blocks. The block is as deep as it is wide, containing an inner quadrangle, and there is a second similar sized block attached to the north.
