Great Court, British Museum
Great Court, British Museum
Or to give it its official title, the Queen Elizabeth II Great Court... This sweeping staircase curves round the outside of the old British Library Reading Room, designed by Sydney Smirke. The new roof - the largest covered square in Europe - and allied changes were the brainchild of Lord Foster of Thames Bank, and opened by the Queen on 6 December, 2000.
