Mushroom growing on dead tree
Mushroom growing on dead tree
It would seem to be Auricularia auricula-judae, an edible mushroom also known as Jew's ear, wood ear or jelly ear which can be found worldwide. It grows on dead wood, especially elder, and the brown fruiting body has a noticeably ear-like shape. Its name is derived from the belief that Judas Iscariot hanged himself from an elder tree and the common name "Judas's ear" eventually became "Jew's ear", while today "jelly ear" and other names are sometimes used. The fungus can be found throughout the year in temperate regions worldwide, where it grows upon both dead and living wood.
GreenAcres woodland burial ground in Colney

The burial ground is set in 16 acres of mature woodland, also known as Colney Wood, and was the first of the parks to be opened towards the end of 1999. Once part of Colney Park, the wood is said to support hundreds of species of wildlife with well over 50 species of birds regularly seen, including Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, Tree Creepers and Jays.
