Moel y Croesau was the site of a night-time aircrash in November 1943 involving a Vickers Wellington bomber of Coastal Command from Withybush (Pembrokeshire). Two of the five crew members survived. The only one able to walk, Sgt. A Sinclair, though badly injured, made his way along the track past the Prince Edward mine SH7438 to Dolddinas SH7337, which unfortunately had been abandoned three years earlier, and on another mile to Bwlch-gwyn-uchaf SH7236 to raise the alarm.
