Fishing has always been a strong part of King’s Lynn's long maritime history. Queen Elizabeth I granted Lynn fishermen the right to "free and uninterrupted use of the Fisher Fleet for ever and ever". This short tidal estuary is the home of most of the small fishing boats which operate mainly in The Wash fishing for shrimps or digging cockles and mussels from the sand banks at low tide. There are modern factories for processing the catches on the quaysides.
See LinkExternal link for aerial photos of some of the boats at work.
