River Nadder near Teffont Evias
The River Nadder is a chalk stream river with clear water and abundant fish and is the most significant of the tributaries of the Hampshire Avon. The river rises near Donhead St Mary east of Shaftesbury, and flows 32km to Wilton and through the park of Wilton House after where it joins the River Wylye. After a couple of miles the combined rivers join the River Avon close to Salisbury Cathedral. From Upper Chicksgrove - about 4km upstream - to Wilton the river is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

This view looking upstream shows the river as it meanders across the 150m wide valley floor.
