Corner of Mount Street & Leeds Road, Harrogate, 1955
The house at 57 Leeds Road was, then, one of the last houses in the parade of shops between Mount Street and Scott's Corner to have a garden. Another photograph, showing the front of the house is at SE3053 : 57 Leeds Road, Oatlands Mount, Harrogate, 1955.

The house had a lower floor with windows just below knee level and the 1901 Census records the names of the servants who would have lived in this lower level. Indeed all the houses along this part of Leeds Road had servants. The house was then called Rose Villa and all the other houses from here to Scott's Corner also had names; street numbers had not yet been allocated.

The next house/shop was formerly called Charnwood Cottage and in the 1950s was a Greengrocers run by a Mr & Mrs Padgett.

The art deco 1920s building, Scotts Corner, was originally a house called The Lindens.
The full 1901 listing from 57 Leeds Road to Scott's Corner was: Rose Villa (57): Charnwood Cottage : Oak House - all of these three appear from the satellite photographs to be the original properties but the following are either completely or substantially rebuilt: Oak Lea: Milton Villa: Clifton Villa: Elder Villa: Westholm: The Lindens (Scott's Corner 1920s building).

The shop, Guy's News, no. 2A Mount Street, was at that time owned by Robert James Guy and was part of the house.

Between 1908 and 1920 the shop was in the name of W H Smith & Son.
The shop next door (behind cyclist) was a haberdashery run by Mrs Fothergill whose name is just discernible on the photograph.

A photograph of the same view, taken in 1981 is at SE3053 : 2A Mount Street & 57 Leeds Road, Oatlands Mount, 1981 and in 1997 at SE3053 : 2A Mount Street & 57 Leeds Road, Oatlands Mount,1997.
