Looking west-south-west towards a wood. On private land, this hides the site of Hiscott culm mine, an unsuccessful late 18th century venture, for sale in 1799:
‘All that CULM MINE, fituated at HISCOTT, in the parifh of Tawftock .. together with an excellent large Water Engine, 30 feet in diameter, worked by a ftream of water brought in at a large expenfe, which has a fall of nearly 30 feet; a new-erected Dwelling Houfe for the refidence of a foreman; a Smith’s Shop ..’ [Sherborne Mercury 1 April 1799]
