Armitage Bridge Mills
Sorry, lousy picture.
A very large textile mill complex that is on the front cover of Giles & Goodall, Yorkshire Textile Mills 1770-1930. The book is a must have if this is your thing. The detached chimney is part of the same complex, long disused and in the middle of a wood. The site had two Gunter water turbines and might still be generating with them (green). There was also a Belliss & Morcom steam engine - probably gone for 20+ years.
This is Brooke's Mill - one of the longest running family owned businesses in the UK. The mill has been in the same family and run as a business since 1541. It is currently a business park, film studio (Where the heart is) and art gallery (The North Light Gallery), incorporating a dance school, art school and conference/venue hire. The water turbines are in the process of being renovated with a view to supplying the site's energy needs and the entire mill is being sympathetically restored using sustainable resources and ethical building practices. In the long-term, the plan is to introduce a sculpture trail to the surrounding woodlands.
