12" Coastal Defence Gun
12" Coastal Defence Gun
These 12" Coastal Defence Guns weigh 25 Tons each and were made between 1866-71 by Sir William Armstrong. The full service charge was 50lbs of gunpowder firing an explosive shell of 496lbs weight over an average range of 7000 yards (4 miles). Can you imagine how much was involved in manufacturing, transporting and siting these guns - done in days when men were men.
