A Sailor's Grave at Irvine
The inscription on the other side reads: "Here lyes the Corps of Iohn Wylie Sailor, Son to William Wylie Sailor and Anne Carswall his Spouse. He died September 30th 1750". The carving shows a hand holding an anchor below a very elaborate winged soul. The high number of maritime grave stones shows how important Irvine was as a sea port in the 18th century.
