Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells
The Metropole was built in 1872 and was called Coleman’s Hotel. In 1885 it became known as the Bridge Hotel and was enlarged a number of times over the years that followed, catering to the demands for spa treatment, part of the hotel was converted into a “hydro” with staff offering a wide range of treatments. In 1911, the hotel was given the more fashionable name of The Metropole and expanded yet further in 1923, by acquiring the adjoining Templefield House.
The grand rear façade of the hotel, graced by tall green copper turrets was built in anticipation of the site of the main road through the town being changed, but this never happened (
