Caban Coch Reservoir
The mirror-like surface of Caban Coch Reservoir reflects the surrounding hills.

Caban Coch is the most southerly, and lowest, of the Elan Valley Reservoirs which are a chain of man-made lakes and reservoirs built to supply water to the City of Birmingham. The six lakes/reservoirs and their picturesque stone dams are amongst the most scenic areas of mid-Wales set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is sometimes referred to as the "Welsh Lake District".
Elan Valley Reservoirs

The dams and reservoirs of the Elan Estate are situated within an area of outstanding scenic beauty. They provide a lasting amenity in their own right for visitors to enjoy.

The protection of the water catchment to prevent pollution of the reservoirs has safeguarded the habitats of numerous species of flora and fauna.

However, it should be remembered that the dams were built to provide for a very basic need....water for the people of Birmingham.
