SM9040 : Pillowed structure in basalt

taken 8 years ago, near to Tresinwen, Pembrokeshire/Sir Benfro, Wales

Pillowed structure in basalt
Pillowed structure in basalt
Large pillows are evident in the outcrops of basalt above the sea. The structures are so large that I was tempted to conclude that they were a spheroidal weathering feature but that is more common in gabbroic, intrusive rocks of similar chemistry. See also SM9040 : Detail of pillow structure for more detail nearby.
