Even ruined, the extent of the ruins show that this was a major operation.
Dhustone

Dhu means black, and is yet another example of an English word with a Celtic origin. It is pronounced "dew" quite unlike its Gaelic and Welsh counterparts.

Dhustone is a dolerite and it caps both the Clees. Until around 2008 it was quarried on Clee Hill (Titterstone) and in later years was remelted and spun into rock wool. You may have insulated your house with it or stuffed it into a test tube. Quarrying in the Clees has now stopped.
