"Lee Castle is situated approximately 2.5 miles (4km) north-west of the town of Lanark. The A73(T) forms the eastern boundary of the policies which are situated in the valley of the Auchenglen Burn which flows into the River Clyde some 2.5km west of the Castle at the village of Crossford. The surrounding landscape to the east and west is rural whilst to the north and east lie the fringes of the towns of Carluke and Lanark. The entire policies, with the exception of a small area in the south-east corner, have been designated as an SSSI for its geological and physiographic interest. The broad valley was once the former valley of the River Clyde before it was diverted during the Ice Age."
