Poplar Town Hall

The Metropolitan Borough of Poplar was one of three authorities subsumed in 1965 into the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (the others were Stepney and Bethnal Green), rendering the former Town Hall on Bow Road redundant.
In the inter-war years Poplar was noted for its assertive social welfare programmes and commitment to intervention, running counter to the free-market orthodoxy of the time: see LinkExternal link .
