SU1905 : Heathland north-west of Vereley Hill, New Forest

taken 10 years ago, near to Picket Post, Hampshire, Great Britain

Heathland north-west of Vereley Hill, New Forest
Heathland north-west of Vereley Hill, New Forest
The ridge on the far side of the valley runs from Picket Plain (off right) to Vales Moor (off left). The so-called "Smugglers' Road" runs along the ridge, presumably it was a suitably remote route inland from the coast, with good visibility to see customs officers approaching. Vereley Hill is off to the left. This valley leads down into the mire of Broad Bottom. There used to be low voltage overhead power lines spoiling the view in this valley (see SU1904 : View towards Vales Moor from Vereley Hill, New Forest), but they were removed recently.
