The monument on Star Hill is in sight of the Dower House on the Stoke Park estate. It is dedicated to Lady Elizabeth Somerset; she was the second daughter of Charles Noel Somerset, 4th Duke of Beaufort, and Elizabeth Berkeley. (The marriage linked the two distinguished families of the Berkeleys and the Beauforts. Stoke Park House (Dower House) was their prime residence.)

This memorial is the remnant of a larger obelisk, but it suffered lightning strikes and is now much shorter. See ST6177 : Inscription to Elizabeth for the inscription and ST6277 : Elizabeth's monument and the big house for the estate view.
