The road here affords an excellent view along the Trawsfynydd Gap between the Rhinogydd mountains to the west and the foothills of the Arenigs to the east. The Roman fortress of Tomen y Mur would have become visible to Roman travellers from the south as they reached this point. None of them, however, would have cried out 'What a pretty lake!', as Llyn Trawsfynydd is a creation of the 20th century.
