The mud springs were 'discovered' in 1974, although they must have been known of for much longer. They are a rare geological phenomenon. There are several references on the web.

This image is from within the small copse containing the springs and shows a mud spring. The length of wood is shown to illustrate the unknown depth of the spring. The wet section is about 1.5 metres long. My size 10 boot is shown in order to show scale. Compare with SU0781 : Wootton Bassett Mud Springs (5)
