Edgar's Field, Handbridge
Edgar's Field, Handbridge
The entrance from Greenway Street to the park called Edgar's Fields. The 10th century King Edgar, known as 'The Peacemaker', is supposed to have had his palace nearby. Stone bases and iron fittings suggest that there were once large iron gates between the gateposts. For a close up of the distinctive sandstone rock strata see SJ4065 : Sandstone Strata in Edgar's Field. The tall iron post sticking out of the bushes may be a sewer vent pipe similar to SJ3965 : Sewer Vent Pipe, Curzon Park North in nearby Curzon Park.
