NO5301 : Evaporation Pans

taken 11 years ago, near to St Monans, Fife, Great Britain

Evaporation Pans
Evaporation Pans
Just mounds in the grass above the foreshore now but this was an important site at one time.

The mounds are all that remain of sea water evaporation tanks that were fuelled by locally dug coal.

The windmill NO5301 : St Monans Windmill drew up seawater into the tanks and then the water was driven off to leave the salt behind.
