The Basingstoke Canal near Curzon Bridge
The Basingstoke Canal near Curzon Bridge
The Basingstoke Canal here is sandwiched between Pirbright army camp (on the left) and the railway from London to Southampton (on the right). Of course, neither of these existed when the canal was opened in 1796 and it passed through open heathland. The photograph shows the impact of the lack of rainfall during the summer of 2005.
