SH7367 : Glacial erratic boulder

taken 8 years ago, 3 km from Dolgarrog, Conwy, Wales

Glacial erratic boulder
Glacial erratic boulder
A large, glacially-derived erratic boulder lying on the pasture above the valley of the Afon Dulyn. Geograph assistants for scale (though one of them is showing some disdain and wants to get on with the job). The wide valleys were occupied by glaciers at the last glacial maximum, and the distant cwms during the 'Loch Lomond' stadial some time later. The wide catchment of these hanging valleys has been critical for the long success of the Dolgarrog hydro-electric generating station.
