Routes marked on the map as footpaths in this area are followed by regular concrete posts bearing the legend "Cable Below", which seems surprising in such barren moorland. The cables are associated with the industrialisation of the area for hydro-electric power generation at Dolgarrog. Electrically-operated valves control the flow of water across the 'low-head' catchment - part of the improvements implemented following the breaking of the dams at Eigiau and Coedty in 1925.
