Ye Olde Man & Scythe, Bolton
Ye Olde Man & Scythe, Bolton
This old pub has been here on Churchgate since 1251 when Bolton was granted a Market Charter by King Henry III. The pub was rebuilt in 1636. The 7th Earl of Derby, James Stanley, spent his final hours here before being taken outside to meet his own olde man with a scythe. He was beheaded on 15th October 1651 for his part (as a Royalist) in the English Civil War.
