The site of Souter Hill Farm
Souter Hill Farm, long abandoned and now just a few stones, is situated just off Grane Road (built 1810), near where it crossed the ancient Grane Road packhorse trail which meandered across the moor joining up the remote farms and hamlets. Although Souter Hill Farm was built close to the ancient Grane Road, the first edition of the Ordnance Survey map shows the farm entrance to be off the new Grane Road, which may indicate that the farm was built after 1810 or more likely that a later entrance was made to the new road.
