The Tenbury to Bewdley line opened in 1864 and closed to passengers in 1962 and to goods finally in 1965. The line crossed the lane here on a high bridge. One full height abutment survives, as does much of the trackbed. The fledgling Severn Valley Railway Society did consider preserving this line in their early days, and a wonderful rural ride it would have been. The infamous Beeching gets the blame for closure here, but it happened before he was appointed.
