Silver birch in a cleared area, Dur Hill Inclosure, New Forest
The pines have been cleared from this area on the western edge of Dur Hill Inclosure, and these silver birch have been left standing. They are tall and straight because they had to compete with the pines when they were young. In coming years the pines in the distance will also be harvested and the Dur Hill area is to be returned to its original (pre-1962) heathland state.
