'Conjuring Minterne's' gravestone at Batcombe Church
It is said that this man was in league with the devil and he leapt from Batcombe Hill and landed in the field next to the church, but not without toppling one of the church pinnacles. The pinnacle has since been repositioned but is noticeably crooked. The place where Sir John's horse landed is said to be a bare patch of ground where grass has never regrown!
