Interior of the Castle, Edinburgh
The Oath of Allegiance signed by Jacobite soldiers of the Duke of Perth's Regiment in 1745.

By putting their names to this document, these men placed themselves under the authority of James Stewart - the man they regarded as their King.

As well as giving their allegiance to James, these two hundred soldiers were also cancelling any previous oath to King George I. In the eyes of the British Army, this made them all 'rebels'.
